Convert the following readings of pressure to kPa…760 mm of Hg

Convert the following readings of pressure to kPa assuming that barometer reads 760 mm of Hg.

(i) 80 cm of HG

(ii) 30 cm of Hg vacuum

(iii) 1.35 m H2O gauge

(iv) 4.2 bar.

2. On a piston of 10 cm diameter a force of 1000 N is uniformly applied. Find the pressure on the piston.

3. A tube contains an oil of specific gravity 0.9 to a depth of 120 cm. Find the gauge pressure at this depth (in kN/m2).

4. A vacuum recorded in the condenser of a steam power plant is 740 mm of Hg. Find the absolute pressure in the condenser in Pa. The barometric reading is 760 mm of Hg.

5. A vessel of cylindrical shape is 50 cm in diameter and 75 cm high. It contains 4 kg of a gas. the pressure measured with manometer indicates 620 mm of Hg above atmosphere when barometer reads 760 mm of Hg. Determine:

(i) The absolute pressure of the gas in the vessel in bar.

(ii) Specific volume and density of the gas.
